As we head into that time of year where the weather is more unpredictable than usual. Instead of feeling ‘trapped’ inside the house, we can use this time to be productive or have some fun! We’ve rounded up some rainy day activities for keeping busy when stuck indoors.
1. Read a book
Grab a book and curl up on the couch with a cuppa. Rainy days present a nice opportunity to spend the day catching up on your reading and getting lost in a good book. Although we do enjoy reading in the sun, there is something extra cosy about reading while listening to the rain outside cuddled up with a book under a blanket.
2. Binge-watch your favourite TV series
Not a book person? Then a rainy day is the perfect time to catch up on tv shows you’ve been missing out on. You may even find a new favourite show to become obsessed with. Maybe a comedy to cheer yourself up or a crime shows to match the gloomy day outside.

3. Declutter your wardrobe
If your wardrobe is overflowing with clothes you never wear, why not spend the day decluttering. Decide what you want to keep, what you want to donate and what needs to be thrown away.
4. Catch up on home maintenance projects
Do you have a list of at home projects you never seem to have time to do? A rainy day is the perfect time for many of these! Clean out your fridge or pantry, rearrange your lounge, change that lightbulb, check drains in sinks, tubs, showers, and dishwashers.
5. Listen to a podcast
Whatever your interest is, there will be a podcast that will hold your attention for hours, letting you enjoy the experience in the comfort of your own living room.
6. Exercise
Although we are encouraged to walk for at least 30 to 60 minutes a day when it’s raining outside, walking can be the last thing we want to do (even though walking in the rain can be invigorating if you have the right waterproof gear to wear). Keeping active inside is important for our body’s health and can improve our mental health, especially if you are prone to SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Try at home yoga, pilates, barre, tai chi or body weight workouts to boost your mood while stuck inside.
7. Take a spa day
Treat yourself to an at-home spa day. Run yourself a bubble bath, put on some calming music and lie back and relax, or try making your very own DIY body scrub to unwind and pamper yourself.
