A warming ginger juice to start the day right

The supermarket is full of juice products, but many contain added sugar on top of the natural fruit sugars already present. So, I make my own. This way, I know they’re full of goodness. It’s easy – even my kids love to create their own drinks.
The trick is to resist using lots of ingredients, otherwise they can look and taste like a science experiment. Another tip is to use vegetables and fruits that are in season (i.e. what’s cheapest or readily available from your garden). I often use vegetables, fruits and herbs from my garden in Mt Eden, Auckland.
The kids picked a lime from our tree to add to this recipe. I’d also recommend investing in a decent juicing machine that can deal with harder produce like ginger and apples, and be sure to get one that’s easy to clean.
Ginger Fire Injection
fresh ginger (a 2cm chunk, peeled)
1 green apple
2 oranges (peeled)
squeeze of lime juice
Put the ginger, apple and orange through a juicer and pour the juice into a gorgeous glass. Add the lime. Lastly, sip and savour!
