Zoomy drives customers to support local charities

Still undecided about which rideshare app to use? Local company Zoomy has given customers a new reason to ride local after launching an initiative aimed at benefiting local charities.

Launched late August 2019, the Zoomy Charity Drive allows riders to round up to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to Kiwi charities. Kiwi kids’ charity KidsCan, domestic violence organisation Shine and drink and drugged driving awareness and victim support charity No One Ever Stands Alone (NESA) are the first to benefit from the initiative, but the company promises others will be added to the list down the track.

While not a new way of giving, Zoomy is the first rideshare company in New Zealand to offer the round up and donate option – and the first partner charities are thrilled to be recipients and share their plans for the donations in animated video clips that have been created for the new campaign.

To enable the feature, select Donate in the Zoomy app and select a charity from the three launch charities. After that, every time you ride with Zoomy, your fare will be rounded to the nearest dollar and your donation will go directly to your chosen charity – KidsCan, NESA or Shine.

In its first week, Zoomy says more than 200 riders have rounded up to donate to charities.

“The Zoomy Charity Drive is our chance to give back to our community in a meaningful way. The Zoomy community has the power to help make some positive change to the lives of Kiwis who need it,” says Zoomy’s Nick Rowland.

“As New Zealand’s biggest locally owned rideshare company, we’re committed to supporting the country we operate in. Each of our chosen launch charities has a vital link back to our community of drivers and riders. We believe this is an easy way for our locals to help locals.”

Zoomy operates in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, with more than 4500 drivers nationwide.
