Zeenya Lives their Sustainability Ethos in more ways than one

Zeenya’s mindful approach to minimising fabric waste sees them turn would be scraps into one of a kind accessory pieces!

New Zealand’s happiest activewear brand make their best efforts to minimise their wastage through producing limited volumes of thoughtful collections each season so there is no need to sell off excess stock. But they also ensure that their fabric offcuts don’t find their way to landfill either and are put to great use!

In the past Zeenya have gifted their colourful fabric offcuts to be used in small runs of face masks and eye masks, collaborating with Christchurch company Maquinky.

Through Maquinky owner Marie and the efforts of Zeenya’s community they raised funds for the Mental Health Foundation through the repurposed offcuts initiative.

“The Zeenya face masks were a lot of fun”, says Chloe Wickman, founder of Zeenya Clothing. “They made people smile and I’ve been known to leave my house with matching print leggings, mask and cap combo. It really does invite conversation. In a time where we’re feeling more disconnected than ever from one another, it’s nice to give people something to connect over. Colour is pretty magic like that!”

Now, their new Belt Bags made from fabric offcuts are flying out the door so fast they can’t keep up with demand!

“Clothing is notorious for creating landfill waste, and here at Zeenya we love coming up with creative ways to reduce our impact as much as we can. There are lots of great brands making fun things with fabric, and we love being able to imagine our offcuts in new ways. Recently we released our first round of Belt Bags as a pocket alternative for our New Zealand Made Range, and were happily surprised they were such a hit!” says Wickman.

Last year, they also collaborated with New Zealand Cap company ‘Offcuts’, providing their vibrant fabric offcuts to be fashioned into a stylish range of caps and hats.

“We chatted with Offcuts for a while before we were all in a position to do a collection together. It’s incredible to now see our prints being fashioned into hats”, says Wickman.

“For the first time, my Dad has been able to be a proud Zeenya print wearer, the golf course has never looked the same! The first drop we did with Offcuts last year sold out in just over 24 hours, and the next drop we anticipate to be similar.”

The new ‘Zeenya x Offcuts’ collaboration is live now. To get your hands on one of these limited edition caps, you’ll need to register via offcut.co to get first access.

Coming up later this month, Zeenya are set to release their ‘Throwback’ Mini Collection, a limited edition range of shorts and crops made from their previous best selling New Zealand made range prints.

All New Zealand made Zeenya products are produced from the world’s first biodegradable nylon which is called Amni Sol Eco® so not only are Zeenya minimising their fabric waste so nothing ends up in landfill, they’re also ensuring that their fabrics are biodegradable in case it does; minimising their eco-footprint in every way possible.

Zeenya activewear range is available online.
