Our favourite decorations are the ones that are easy (and cheap) to make. These quilted baubles look professional, but there’s no sewing required – and you can put one together in about ten minutes.
You will need:
- Polystyrene balls
- Fabric in three complementary colours
- Dressmakers’ pins (lots)
- Ribbon or braid
How to make:
Our craft expert Kath Gola shows what you need to make the baubles (first video) and then how to create them (second video).
And here’s a close-up view of the different steps!
These completed baubles are made from white satin, light grey satin and dark grey satin squares
You’ll need three kinds of fabric. Cut squares with the same dimensions as your bauble’s diameter – so for a 75mm bauble, cut squares 75mm x 75mm in size
Here are three squares of the first layer pinned to the bauble
The first layer of squares is complete
Five out of eight squares of the second layer have now been added
Once all fabric squares are pinned in place, trim the rough edges and pin ribbon around the circumference to hide them
These baubles look far more difficult to make than they actually are!
