Kowtow’s New Collection Invites You To Take Your Pleasure Seriously

When the opportunity to play presented itself during New Zealand’s 2020 lockdown, creative instinct aroused a vibrant energy.

Evoking impulsive childlike wonder and discovery, constructive play of cut and paste, colouring in, and building made way for a collection that is joyful, buoyant and spontaneous.

As a way to integrate play into everyday life, Kowtow’s collection encourages the wearer to create their desired silhouette.

Akin to origami, new forms make themselves known with accentuated frills, gathers and pleats. Elementary shapes; square, circle and triangle lend themselves to a comprehensive denim collection.

The sweetness of colours; sun, lilac, grass, peony, and ink paints a picture of optimism, and delivers bold stripes and checks.

To indicate that Kowtow’s collection of organic cotton basics have been made with no harm to the planet, a colourful pip has been added to each Building Block style.

This new signifier recognises the wearer for making their own contribution to a better world by choosing a product that is both fairtrade and organic.

In addtion to Kowtow’s main collection and Building Blocks, the brand presents a unisex capsule that provides space for anyone who is embracing a changing society. Focussed on easier dressing, the collection is the epitome of an essential and modular wardrobe.

Kowtow is committed to exploring the versatility of a single fibre, and only uses 100% Fairtrade certified organic cotton in the making of their clothes.

Incorporating play into the beginning of the design process, Kowtow designs all their fabrics from the yarn; determining the weave, weight, stitch, and colour for all their fabrics and creating all their prints in-house.
