Drink your coffee, compost the packaging

Freeze-dried coffee brand Blended uses home-compostable packaging and plants a tree for every pack purchased.

Words Lara Wyatt

New coffee brand Blended brings together values of great flavour, home-compostable packaging and a wonderful buy one plant one scheme, where for every packet of Blended coffee purchased, a tree will be planted.

Blended has partnerships with several organisations around the world (including in New Zealand), which co-ordinate the planting of trees globally.

With many single-use coffee cups not being home-compostable, it’s refreshing to discover that everything about the packaging of Blended’s freeze-dried, including the zipper, can be thrown into a home compost system that contains heat, water, oxygen, soil and micro-organisms.

There are two types of Blended coffee: Earlybird and Daymaker. Earlybird is a 100% arabica flavourful and vibrant variety, while Daymaker is rich, full-bodied and smooth.

You can find Blended in leading supermarkets and whole food stores nationwide with an RRP of $10.50.
