Blind Low Vision Week

Blind Low Vision Week is the time of year when we celebrate New Zealanders with vision loss living their lives without limits.

10th – 16th October 2022

“A human being is much more than eyesight alone”. These are the words of Michael Whittaker (pictured), who has RP, a condition he describes as having literal ‘tunnel vision’ where he sees the world through an ever-narrowing opening.

Michael was just 29 years old when he learned he was legally blind. He was planning his PhD, loved running, and was at the start of his career. With the onset of blindness, Michael’s sense of possibility and optimism initially appeared to turn on him, the horizons of his hopes and future shrinking.

This Blind Low Vision Week, help more young people with vision loss, like Michael, to get the confidence, education and training they need to say YES to their hopes and dreams.

Blind Low Vision Week is this 10-16 October. Find out more and donate at the Blind Low Vision website.
