Have a fragrant summer on Waiheke Island with Chypre Perfume Experiences

PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ALEMBICS

In celebration of summer, our friends at Alembics are opening their workshop doors on the beautiful Waiheke Island, only a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland!

Botanical distillation specialists Alembics are hosting a number of intimate group sessions about a style of perfume known as Chypre. These are fascinating, hands-on and fully immersive experiences, so be prepared to be led to wonderful places by the wisdom of one of your oldest and most powerful senses.

Chypre is French for Cyprus: archaeological digs in Cyprus many centuries ago revealed a perfectly preserved ancient perfumery, replete with ceramic stills and distinctly scented oils. From here, French perfumist François Coty developed a new style of fragrance based on what was discovered. Released in 1917 and named ‘Chypre’, Coty’s perfume made way for the modern fragrance industry.

A Chypre perfume is everything we’d imagine the mediterranean to be. Typically, the scent includes base notes of rock rose, resin and oak moss, bridged by warming heart notes of rose, orange blossom, rosemary and oregano, and finished with citrus.

Alembics’ bespoke experiences require booking in advance and are tailored to groups of two to four people. They’re a particularly special experience for birthdays, mother and daughter outings, and even brides and bridesmaids.
