Sustainable footwear brand Allbirds are taking their innovative designs to China.

In April 2019, Allbirds will be hitting China with their first store popping up in Shanghai. This store, which will also have its own online site, is expected to be a hit with already enthusiastic eco-conscious Chinese consumers.

The athleisure shoe company produces shoes made with New Zealand merino wool, eucalyptus fibres or sugarcane and other renewable or recycled materials. With this focus on sustainability, Allbirds have been rewarded by being acknowledged as a B-Corp company, which are businesses that treat the environment as seriously as they do their own business.

Allbirds was founded by co-CEOs Tim Brown, a Kiwi former footballer, and Joey Zwillinger, an engineer and renewables expert. The pair got Allbirds up and running thanks to a Kickstarter campaign they began in 2014.

Allbirds officially launched in 2016 and now boasts stores in San Francisco, New York City and London with more on the horizon.

“Bringing Allbirds to China has been a goal of ours since we launched the brand back in 2016. We’re focused on bringing more comfortable, more sustainable footwear to people around the world, and entering China is a huge step in that direction,” Tim Brown says.
