Rachel Mataira, 2019’s New Zealand Young Photographer of the Year, is soon presenting her first solo exhibition, 2020 in review.

2020 in review is a collection of Rachel’s documentary photography that has been captured throughout the year. The exhibition aims to bring people together to acknowledge and reflect on the collective challenges we have experienced this year and provide a sense of hope going forward.

This year, Rachel’s work has moved from landscape focus to a documentary and social commentary focus of work. The images being shown at the exhibition are there to serve as a reminder of the year we have had and help us to reflect on the unprecedented circumstances we have lived in, including different parts of the year that have taken us outside our sense of normal. The exhibition finishes with New Zealand landscape photography which aims to make us feel grateful for being able to get out doors again and explore our beautiful country now that we are in Level One.

View Rachel’s work at rachelmataira.com. Find out about her exhibition here from 10 December onwards.
