Jeweller Nick Von K is generously giving away a beautiful set of his Silver Pounamu Icicle Earrings, valued at $165.
Nick Von K’s Silver Pounamu Icicle Earrings are stunningly long shards of hand-carved New Zealand pounamu sourced from Hokitika, set in sterling silver and perfectly hung on sterling silver hooks.
Pounamu is found in the rivers of the West Coast of the South Island, having journeyed from the jade seams high in the mountains. Each stone tumbles down the rivers being smoothed, shaped and rounded as it goes, and each of these pounamu river stones is different, with subtle shades of colour flowing together. As a result, each piece is unique.
This is fitting as Nick believes jewellery should connect to the unique individuals that wear it and he likes to think for each and every Kiwi there is a slightly different piece of pounamu just for them.
A little about the jeweller himself: Nick has been making jewellery for 25 years, starting in his bedroom when he was 18. Later, a friend then helped him build a tiny ramshackle shed out the back of his flat for him to build on his passion.
After working with Ricochet clothing, Nick found himself at a crossroads in 2009, and that was the moment he decided to start his own brand, calling it Nick Von K. The name is in memory of his beloved grandfather Peter Von Klarwill, who for Nick encapsulated a fabled air of old European aristocratic art and culture that has always inspired him.
Nick proudly launched his first collection at NZ Fashion Week in September 2010 and was picked up by a headlining international designer who was hugely famous in the USA to supply her American stores. He couldn’t believe his luck!
The PR coup hit the headlines and launched the brand all over NZ, which meant all of Nick’s hard work and investment was paying off.
Nick’s passion these days is exploring the world of gold jewellery and precious stones. Working with sapphires and diamonds and creating custom wedding and engagement rings that will last a lifetime is incredibly special.
