The Resene Architecture and Design Film Festival is back for a fifth time in 2016 for a fifth time, coming to a city near you. This year’s line-up will showcase the most acclaimed and current films in the architecture and design space.
This year’s festival will hold film screenings across New Zealand’s four main centres – Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Curators Tracey Lee and Claire Buchanan say “it is a pivotal time in New Zealand as urban development and renewal reshape our architectural landscape. We hope that this collection of films stimulates the imagination and provokes dialogue about the possibilities of architecture and design innovation in our lives.”
This year, the films screening have been grouped into themes so audiences can navigate towards movies in the categories they are most interested in. This year’s festival showcases architectural styles and architect profiles following their body of work, their inspiration and their path to recognition. It’s an extra special year for naming rights sponsor Resene, which celebrates its 70th birthday in 2016.
With more than 19 films screening at this year’s festival, it becomes the second largest architecture and design film festival in the world.
The festival begins in Auckland (Rialto Cinemas Newmarket) from 5-18 May, Wellington (Embassy Theatre) 26 May – 12 June, Dunedin (Rialto Cinemas) 16-26 June, and Christchurch (Academy Gold) from 30 June – 13 July. For more, head to www.resene.co.nz/filmfestival.htm
