Deadly Ponies announce their mission to become the world’s most responsible handbag brand, being Carbon Zero certified and their pathway to full transparency.
On November 15, 2021, renowned leather accessories brand Deadly Ponies launch ‘The World is in Our Hands,’ revealing their brand mission to become the world’s most responsible handbag brand.
Openly sharing this determined pursuit for the first time, the campaign is Deadly Ponies’ public commitment to be transparent, considered, accountable and innovative in everything they do.
As part of this announcement, ‘The World is in Our Hands’ presents Deadly Ponies’ goals and achievements that signpost the pathway to achieving their mission.
This includes their recent Carbon Zero certification, achieved through a partnership with globally recognised Toitu Envirocare.
Proud to be the first luxury leather goods company to receive this certification from Toitu, Deadly Ponies already have their sights set on the future, currently working towards B Corp certification by 2022.
Sharing their achievements and future goals, Deadly Ponies highlights the integral steps along the pathway towards their diligently pursued vision, including:
Deadly Ponies Eco Atelier
Purpose-built to ensure total control over the manufacturing process with the aim of revolutionising the world of handbag manufacturing, the Deadly Ponies eco-atelier is based in Chiang Mai Thailand, where a team of specialist Deadly Ponies-trained makers handcraft their products.
Established to operate with as little environmental and social impact as possible, Deadly Ponies are working towards Zero Waste certification through the installation of a bio-fuel reactor that will enable the eco-atelier to run entirely on renewable energy.
Accredited Materials
Regardless of style, all Deadly Ponies bags are made from leather derived from certified Leather Working Group Gold partners or equivalent, which ensures environmental best practices are used in all Deadly Ponies materials.
Code of Conduct
Working closely with all suppliers, Deadly Ponies ensure that their Code of Conduct is adhered to and any environmental or social concerns are addressed, with all material suppliers required to comply with the Code, as well as re-signing the agreement every two years.
Community Commitments
Deadly Ponies are committed to donating a portion of profits to chosen charity partners in 2021, supporting RainbowYOUTH and Sustainable Coastlines in New Zealand and the Baan Dek Foundation in Thailand, providing further enrichment to communities in both countries and supporting future generations.
Made to Last, Yours to Protect
Committed to ensuring their quality and consideration doesn’t end when each piece transitions from their hands to the customer, Deadly Ponies are now offering premium leather care kits to assist in extending the life of Deadly Ponies handbags.
Then, when the time does come for pieces to have a new life, Deadly Ponies accept them in to recycle, repurpose and re-love through their Recycle program.
‘The World is in Our Hands’ campaign features considered imagery, with thoughtful iconography of symbolic objects from their Auckland-based workroom.
Collaborating with local artist Sophie Bannan to bring the cyanotypes to life, the imagery references the botanical works of Herbert Dobbie, who documented 148 native fern varieties in the late 19th century – a nod to Deadly Ponies’ heritage as a locally-grown brand, and their commitment to people and planet.
