New Good Friends app helps the elderly

Statisticians predict that up to 27 percent of Kiwis will be over 65 by 2050, compared to 15 percent in 2016, as the most affordable option for the Government and public, on-demand care services will increasingly become essential for our rapidly aging population.

It’s a conversation we don’t like having, but one we need to address. How are we going to take care of everyone? Cue Good Friends, an app that adds convenience and a new level of support to the caring economy.

Good Friends is part of a philosophy to revolutionise an outdated model – one that critically addresses the fact that most kiwis want to live independently (currently 87% of us). Plus, it’s a cost-effective way to manage an aging population.

Good Friends is essentially consumer-directed care. The Good Friends’ mobile app connects individuals who need home care with trusted, qualified helpers who can provide it. The app launches with multiple help services – from personal care, nursing and specialist care, to housework, companionship, gardening and home maintenance. The service costs start at $39 p/w for the app and dedicated care manager, plus a flat hourly rate set by the helper depending on what is needed.*

Clients will have a dedicated support person to connect them with their required services and ensure they have everything they need. The Good Friends virtual care community also enables family members full visibility to track and order services, helping them to ensure loved ones are fully supported.
