A repair service offered by an instore cobbler at the Newmarket store hopes to make your shoes last longer.
Merchant 1948 is set to open its first cobbler at their flagship Newmarket store this month.
The store within a store concept aims to make it easier for consumers to get their shoe soles repaired to give their favourite shoes a longer life.
The on-site cobbler will be Steve Monks who has worked at shoe repair store, Shoe Sherriff for ten years.
The services offered at the cobbler will be shoe shining, repairs and replacements, and silver or gold foil monogramming.
Brand owner Shane Anselmi says that his company is doing their part to combat fashion industry pollution. “The fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world and we’re committed to doing our piece. The next area we’re tackling is packaging and we are trialling a take-back scheme in our 277 store, where unwanted shoes can be passed forward to those in need,” says Anselmi.
The company has also set up a sustainability committee and says that it aims to innovate and improve throughout their entire manufacturing process. Merchant 1948 (originally named Overland) owns its factory in China, which also produces shoes for associated brands Mi Piaci and Deuce.
Shoes can be repaired a the soon-to-be-opened cobbler from $20 through to $55 for a full resole and heel fix, while monogramming is $3 per letter.
