Make Your Own Galaxy Nebula Painting

Spotlight has an array of painting tutorials on their website, great for curing our boredom during lockdown.

This year we’re loving their Galaxy Nebula Painting tutorial.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Black canvas
  • Acrylic paints
  • Foam brushes
  • Stencil paint brush

METHOD

Step 1. Dip the foam brush into the blue paint and dab it in the centre of the canvas. Move the brush back and forth in a diagonal line from one end of the painting to the other. It is best to build the paint in layers so the colour pops on the black canvas.

Step 2. Then take some purple paint and use the same diagonal brushing technique.

Step 3. If you want to blend the paint, we recommend slightly dipping a paint brush into water so it’s slightly damp, and using small strokes to blend the edges of the paint.

Step 4. Now mix purple and red paint to create magenta, and use the same technique.

Step 5. To add the stars, we mixed the white paint with water to create a very thin and running consistency. Dip the brush into the mixture and tap to remove any excess runny paint. Position the brush over the canvas and use your fingers to flick the bristles of the paintbrush to create speckles of white paint. Experiment with different amounts of paint, add different distances from the canvas, to create varied effects.

Step 6. Let the painting dry before displaying.
