Local brands join forces with Kiwis to support struggling hospitality businesses

New Zealand’s hospitality sector is struggling. While businesses are allowed to remain open in Red, the fear of Omicron is keeping people at home.

Over the course of the pandemic, many establishments have had to close their doors for good. Without support, sadly many more will follow.

Hospo Red Relief is an initiative from seven hospitality suppliers, designed to rally the public into spending their hard-earned dollars with the businesses who need them most.

The campaign is a collective effort from Kōkako Coffee, All Good, La Marzocco, Karma Drinks, Innocent Packaging, Almighty and Acme Cups. The group has pooled together $10K as a prize for one hospitality business to win, taking some of the pressure off.

The winner of the $10k will be chosen by the people of Aotearoa, who can nominate their favourite café or restaurant by:

  1. Buying something from their favourite spot (online purchases count too)
  2. Taking a photo of their purchase, or the business
  3. Uploading the photo to www.hosporedrelief.co.nz

“Even though it’s been a challenging trading environment for us, we recognised the urgent need to help our hospitality sector – they are really suffering. By bringing together other like-minded brands, we hope our collective efforts will make a tangible impact in terms of sales for restaurants and cafes who need public support. This is an industry that we are passionate about and without them, we’d be nowhere,” says Mike Murphy of Kōkako.

Those who are concerned about physically dining in at their favourite spot can support the business by opting for takeaway, buying something from them online, or purchasing vouchers to give as gifts or use at a later date.

Screenshots of vouchers count as nominations — this isn’t a photography contest. The most important thing is for people to support hospitality in any way they can.

The winner will be drawn at random on 7 March 2022 — the more nominations a business has, the better their odds. Any independently owned NZ hospitality business is eligible for entry.
