Step into spring with Kate Sylvester x Mi Piaci’s new capsule footwear collection.
Spring has sprung and with that, an exciting colourful shoe collection to re-inspire your wardrobe and take you into summer.
Kate Sylvester and Mi Piaci have partnered to create a spring footwear collection, inspired by the works of modern painter Milton Avery.
Described as an instinctual collaboration between two iconic New Zealand designers, the inspiration came from wanting beautiful shoes to complement Kate Sylvester’s Spring Collection, Avery.
“We thought about who we can work with that has the craft, the skills and the knowledge to make these shoes really beautiful and we thought of Mi Piaci,” says Kate Sylvester.
The capsule collection includes two styles: a pump and a sandal, in three colourways: grass, camel, and blue. The bright, energetic colours were taken straight from Milton Avery’s canvasses.
Sylvester says the shoe design absolutely sums up Avery’s work. “The sandal and the pump perfectly capture Avery’s purity, strength, and his incredibly clean strong shapes.”
The Aida pump features a 90s-inspired square toe, contrasted with butter-soft leather and a cylindrical heel which makes it timeless but contemporary. The addition of a detachable strap to wrap around the ankle easily takes the shoe from day to night. The sculptural Ali sandal has a low rounded heel and soft leather strap wrapping across the foot. The lively colours elevate the classic designs and “talk to international trends” as well as the main artistic inspiration.
Mi Piaci designer Ellie Mills says it was fun getting into the nitty gritty details when working with Sylvester. “It’s really nice working with somebody that’s as much into those technical aspects and the comfort side of things as I am.”
Sylvester agrees, saying “such a positive is the appreciation of the craft of what we do, because it matters so much to both of us.”
The ultimate sophisticated summer shoes, Sylvester loves to style them with other brilliant shades like those of her spring clothing collection, “I love a train smash and mixing colours.”
