Sometimes our pre-loved furniture can feel the harsh reality of rejection. But thanks to a new charity auction launching in New Zealand these deserving chattels are getting a new lease on life.
The Feast Watson Re-Love Project is an up-cycling campaign where design personalities are invited to make over a piece of timber furniture, highlighting each designer’s own unique style and creativity.
This year, high profile Kiwi designers LeeAnn Yare and Tamzyn Adding have been tasked with the up-cycling challenge – and their complete projects will be auctioned off on Trade Me from October 31 – November 11 with proceeds donated to Mercy Hospice in Auckland.
Feast Watson woodcare brand manager Rozanne Valcarcel says, “It’s going to be fabulous to see someone’s unloved furniture reborn as a contemporary keepsake.
“We are seeing more and more design lovers interested in the up-cycle revolution and keen to partake in their own Re-Love transformation, but some don’t know where to begin. This is the beauty of this campaign,” says Mrs Valcarcel.
Mercy Hospice Auckland fundraising leader Sandy McGregor says, “We are thrilled to have been chosen as the beneficiary charity of the Feast Watson Re-Love project. The whole idea of upcycling a second hand item, and for someone new to use and love, fits perfectly with our Hospice Shop philosophy. .
“To continue our vital work we need to fundraise $3 million each year, and we rely on the generosity of our community. Without organisations like Feast Watson that freely give their time, money and resources, we could not do the work we do,” says Ms McGregor.
Tamzyn Adding’s piece, ‘Miss Eva Eternity’ was created as a statement piece, loud while remaining beautiful and elegant. LeeAnn Yare’s ‘Ordinary to Extraordinary’ piece (hero image) was made with the idea of taking the everyday ordinary and transforming it in to something extraordinary. She’s given a burst of new life by pairing the softness of Dulux Ahipara Half with the revived natural tones of the original timber using Feast Watson Clear Varnish in Satin and sophisticated new drawer pulls.
Feast Watson is a woodcare brand that has been running the Re-Love Project in Australia since 2013 before bringing it to New Zealand this year.
