Kiwi’s demand for unique Airbnb stays has surged up by 94 per cent since the start of the pandemic.
Whether it’s a farmhouse, yurt or tiny home, new research from Airbnb shows guests are craving unique getaways like never before.
New Zealand hosts of unique homes have earned NZD $3.3 million since March 2020.
Searches for Yurts in New Zealand increased by 90 per cent, tree houses increased by 76 per cent while interest in farm stays have boomed with searches increasing by 80 per cent.
Susan Wheeldon, Airbnb’s Country Manager for New Zealand and Australia, said with so much enthusiasm for unique and quirky homes, there’s never been a better time to host on Airbnb.
“More than ever, Kiwi’s are looking at their accommodation itself as the destination – and that means homes that are fun, quirky adventure in their own right. The sky’s really the limit when it comes to the types of spaces people can list on Airbnb.”
“It’s easy to become a host on Airbnb – in fact, we recently announced a new, simplified process for becoming a Host in just 10 easy steps,” says Wheeldon.
Auckland-based unique home stay Host, Daniel Beetham, says listing his Woodpecker Bay Bach in the West Coast, allows him to share the true Kiwi Bach experience with local and international travellers.
