Eco-yurts and sea views: New Zealand Airbnb Superhosts share their secrets

New Zealand’s top Airbnb Superhosts are spilling their secrets on how to create a stay that scores rave reviews.

In Motueka Valley, Top Superhost Tessa says first of all it’s important to establish why you want to list your property. When building her highly sought after Yurt, it was about sharing awareness for living a sustainable life in a comfortable way.

Initially attractive to guests because of its proximity to Abel Tasman, Tessa believes their accommodation has since become an attraction in itself.

Tessa's Yurt

On her success Tessa says: “People like to experience something different and for many, a stay in the Yurt is something special. Tucked in an eco-village surrounded by native bush, guests are treated to both an outdoor tub overlooking Motueka River, and a stunning view of the stars through the Yurt’s skylight.”

“As we’re off the grid, we provide a handy little information booklet for guests during their stay. We explain how to light a fire, how to use the composting toilet, as well as the dos and don’ts, such as going without the hair dryers on a cloudy day. Some things that are basic for us are a novelty to some”.

Another Superhost, Jo Demanser from Hawke’s Bay, believes it’s the special touches that help make her guests feel relaxed whilst staying at Seafield View that attribute to her listing’s success. With almost 100% of her guests leaving 5 star reviews, she’s created what one guest claims is a ‘6 star stay’.

Jo says her number one goal is to make her guests feel special: “From the outset, communication is key during the whole process. I want my guests to have the best holiday possible so I ensure I respond fast, leave very clear instructions and directions, and share my local knowledge. We also leave a breakfast pack which I make from scratch, this includes home-baked bread, home-made muesli, preserved local fruit, honey from our hives, and eggs from our chickens.”

The house which boasts spectacular 360 rural and sea views from every window, has recently had a shed converted into a book exchange; filled with thousands of stories, guests are able to relax with a book, while overlooking the stunning Hawke’s Bay vineyard views. We love that!
