Are you looking to make your own stylish Christmas baubles this year? Maybe you want to create a special colour scheme, or need child-friendly decorations? Then take a look at this simple but effective way of making some stunning contemporary Christmas baubles from paper! A great craft project that you can work on by yourself, with friends, or with children. You can create beautiful looking baubles that won’t break if they accidentally get knocked by small hands or excited pets!
What you’ll need:
Colourful paper
Something circular to trace around like a mug or glass
Double-sided tape
Pencil
Scissors
Twine/wire
Instructions
Step 1. Use your mug or glass and pencil to draw 12 circles onto your paper and cut them out. We have used 2 different types of paper and have cut 6 of each. Paper that has different colours on the back and front gives a nice effect.
Step 2. Fold all your circles in half and stack them on top of each other so they resemble a small round book. For a symmetrical look bauble, stack them in the order ABBAABBAABBA.
Step 3. Wrap a length of twine or wire all the way around the stack of circles, so that it runs along the fold. Tie or twist the ends together to secure. If using twine, leave enough excess to create the loop to hang the decoration.
Step 4. Cut a bunch of small pieces of double-sided tape and have them ready to stick. Stick the tape about 1/3 of the way from the bottom. Fold the facing flaps together and press to secure the bond.
Step 5. On the next circle along, stick another piece of tape, this time about 1/3 of the way from the top. Continue like this all the way around, alternating high and low.
Step 6. Once you’ve stuck all the adjacent flaps together, you can attach a pretty piece of ribbon and hang your bauble on your Christmas tree.
Variations
Now you know how simple it is to create a great looking Christmas tree bauble, you can let your imagination run wild and make stars, fans, lanterns and more. You can also make your baubles more complicated by using three different paper patterns (stack them stack them in the order ABBCCAABBCCA) or use a single double-sided paper alternating heads-up and tails-up.
