Fashion Revolution New Zealand, an integral part of the global movement that emerged in response to the 2013 Rana Plaza Collapse, is proud to present “Fashion Reimagined” in collaboration with Vendetta Films – an inaugural national screening event that promises to open eyes and hearts.
As the spectre of Black Friday looms on the horizon, it serves as a symbol of the fashion industry’s overproduction issue, where major brands recklessly churn out products, causing harm to both people and the planet. Through clever marketing, customers unwittingly contribute to the disposal of unsold stock, perpetuating a wasteful cycle.
On the eve of Black Friday, the “Fashion Reimagined” national screening aims to offer a more authentic perspective on fashion. It aspires to inspire change by highlighting the urgent need for mindful consumption and ethical practices.
“Fashion Reimagined” follows award-winning UK fashion designer Amy Powney, renowned for her dedication to sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry, on a mission to transform the way we engage with fashion. Born out of her unwavering commitment to the environment and a desire for change, Amy is set to revolutionise the fashion landscape with her groundbreaking initiative.
Raised off-the-grid in rural England by activist parents, Amy has always felt uneasy about the devastating environmental impact of her industry. However, her moment to make a difference arrived when she was awarded the coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year, accompanied by a substantial cash prize. Amy made the bold decision to utilize this prize money to create a sustainable collection, from field to finished garment, and completely overhaul her business practices.
