Spring is in the air and your garden is ready to bloom!

October

October marks mid-spring, and the garden is bursting with activity. With spring crops and flowers beginning to appear, it’s the perfect time to plant more to ensure a continuous supply of delicious vegetables, juicy fruit and fragrant floral displays that will carry you into the summer months.

Plant now

Asparagus, avocado, basil, beans, beetroot, berries, bok choy, cabbage, capsicum, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chillies, courgettes, cucumber, eggplant, kumara, leeks, lettuce, parsley, potatoes, sweetcorn, tomatoes, watermelon.

Jobs to do

  • Continue planting a variety of berries to ensure a plentiful supply for summer snacking and desserts. Make sure to choose different types for a longer harvest period.
  • Plant your tomatoes during Labour weekend, a traditional time for planting, to ensure a bumper crop of flavoursome tomatoes in summer. Consider staking them early to support their growth.
  • Fill pots with citrus trees like lemons, oranges, limes and mandarins, and place them in sunny spots to enjoy an abundant harvest of fresh, juicy fruit right from your garden.
  • Add vibrant, bee-attracting blooms to your vegetable patch to not only brighten up the space but also to encourage pollinators that are essential for the healthy growth of vegetables like tomatoes and beans.

November
