Ruby’s tea towels are back for spring

Wallace Cotton is continuing its longstanding partnership with cancer survivor Ruby Seeto to raise funds for the Starship Foundation

Ruby’s latest ‘Starship Spritzer’ tea towel design is a delightful zesty print featuring lemons, honey and bees, along with a thirst-quenching, spring-inspired lemon and lavender drink recipe. Every year Ruby creates a design inspired by her favourite spring and summer recipes, and her tea towels have become collector’s items over the years.

Ruby's Starship Spritzer Tea Towel

Last year, Ruby’s ‘Kiwi Breakfast Bowl’ tea towel raised over $42,000 for the Starship Foundation, going towards equipping Starship’s Day Stay Unit with a new digital wall display to keep children entertained while waiting for their appointments. “Showing both fun and educational videos, the digital experience is already going a long way to provide a welcome distraction for those spending long hours in the Starship Day Stay waiting room, just like I did many years ago”, says Ruby.

Other tea towels have helped to fund the Oncology ward, the neonatal simulation programme, and the refurbishment of the Phlebotomy laboratory, where around 600 children each month have blood samples taken.

Ruby’s Starship journey began in 2006 when at nine years of age she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. She spent twelve months in Starship Hospital undergoing intensive treatment, including a seven-hour operation to remove a large tumour along with 70% of her liver and fourteen rounds of chemotherapy.

A few years after Ruby’s initial treatment, she decided to produce a batch of tea towels at home to raise money for the hospital that had helped to save her life. Wallace Cotton came on board the following year, and popularity of the tea towels has grown, raising over half a million dollars along the way. You can find out more about Ruby’s journey on her website www.rubyseeto.com

The ‘Starship Spritzer’ tea towels are available to purchase online and instore at Wallace Cotton from Wednesday 29 July. They retail for $10.00, and six dollars from every sale (all proceeds after costs) go to the Starship Foundation
