The Big Bike Film Night’s foundation began in 2015 as a passion project to help restore and return a vandalised 3 metre Giant Bike Statue Brett Cotter’s home town of Taupō, New Zealand.
In celebrating the fun, the adventure, and the inspiration that cycling enables the genesis of the Big Bike Film Night was born and it was an enormous success helping raise funds for the statue’s restoration.
From these humble beginnings, an opportunity to start this as a business began.
The 2022 collection, the programme contains 12 films that are as varied and diverse as you could ever hope for the humble bike is the unifying factor throughout.
Each year it is a privilege and an enormous thrill finding these films revolving around the bicycle that speak to us about determination, hope, passion, courage, overcoming challenges and at the heart of it offer quirky, uplifting, adventurous powerful narratives.
Then assembling them into an inspiring collection worthy of being heralded as “the best cycling short films from around the world”.
The power of storytelling is again at the forefront of what The Big Bike Film Night offers, and these stories are sought specifically to delight our two-wheel devotees, whatever they ride.
