Good talks to Liam Bowden, Creative Director at Deadly Ponies about ‘Puzzle‘, a store-exclusive capsule designed and handcrafted from recycled offcuts from seasons past.
Deadly Ponies’ latest Puzzle capsule harks back to over 15 years ago where as a young designer, Liam had a keen interest in reworking and repurposing materials to create something truly unique.
Speaking about the process behind Puzzle, Liam says “repurposing offcuts into samples and smaller goods has always been important to us to reduce our waste to landfill. This is one of the reasons that we only produce small runs to ensure we never have excess product. You will often see our products sold out, or on pre-order – only producing exactly what we need has always been a challenge, but we rise to it in an effort to reduce our environmental impact.”
Taking this notion one step further with Puzzle, Deadly Ponies has created a collection from some of its most-loved prints and textures over the seasons and hand-stitching each piece together through intricate marquetry techniques.
This is not the only challenge Deadly Ponies is embarking on this year, Liam says “we are working on an exciting project at the moment that will challenge us creatively and technically even further this year while focussing on becoming a more circular business, and can’t wait to share it”.
The limited-edition four-piece collection – which consists of the Mr Boxette, Lady Wallet, Flex Phone case and silk scarf – is available in all Deadly Ponies stores and online at deadlyponies.com now.
