Feniu was founded by Mele Feniu Olivetti, a Tongan-Australian woman whose vision was to keep her culture’s traditions alive by continuing to provide Tongan coconut oil to future generations.
Driven with the desire to empower and showcase the richness of Tongan culture, Mele set out on a three-year journey to build Feniu.
Mele’s inspiration to bring Feniu to life can be traced back to her own mother and the generations of women before her.
As a child of the Pacific, Mele holds great respect and admiration for those who, to date, still observe these cultural practices.
“Growing up, Tongan coconut infused oils were used as moisturiser for our faces, body and hair. It was the only form of nourishment for the skin and beauty regime of a Tongan household in the islands. As I got older and had children of my own, I was only able to get this from relatives who would make this in Tonga. Applying work experience, I decided to go to Tonga to look for a manufacturer to source this from and create my own brand of coconut infused oil.
“As part of my mission to give back to the Tongan community, I engaged with a local Tongan youth organisation. This organisation uses traditional methods to source and produce coconut and sandalwood oil, whilst also prioritising agricultural preservation and water purification efforts. Through our collaborative work with this youth organisation, we have been able to ethically and sustainably source the natural ingredients found in Feniu, whilst helping to provide Tongan youth with consistent employment and independence.”
The Feniu premium skincare range stays true to its roots and is made from 100 per cent organic coconut and sandalwood from Tonga.
