Bring a bit of nature inside with a simple tree mural

Before

Add extra visual interest to an existing feature wall in your child’s bedroom with this simple mural.

Step 1

Choose your colour – soften the final effect with a differing tone of the same colour. If necessary, identify the wall colour using the downloadable app, Resene ColourMatch.

Step 2

Search online for simple tree images. Check out stencil designs at www.resene.co.nz/kids/kids_stencils.htm. Print out your chosen image.

Step 3

Clean the wall by wiping with a damp but well wrung-out cloth.

Step 4

Using the printed image as a guide, sketch the outline on the wall. Start by marking the centre of the wall and the outer edges of your tree.

Step 5

Fill in the shape using Resene testpots and paintbrushes in a variety of thicknesses.

Step 6

Once the paint is dry, rub out any pencil marks that are still visible.

You will need:

•    3-4 Resene testpots in the colour of your choice – we used Resene Windfall

•    1 soft pencil, such as an HB2, and a soft eraser

•    variety of fine brushes

•    damp cloth
