Turn the Tide on ocean waste with Syrene skincare

New Zealand luxury skincare brand Syrene is embarking on an exciting new sustainability journey to turn the tide on ocean waste and help clean up the environment. Syrene takes inspiration from the sea for all aspects of its brand from product ingredients through to packaging, so it’s also no coincidence that this week on World Oceans Day, Syrene launched into MECCA.

As well as being cruelty-free, Syrene products are dermatologically tested and use natural fragrances only, which we know Good readers will love. Product ingredients incorporate nutrients from active ingredients found in the ocean, including the seaweed extract Ephemer™ which is rich in antioxidant properties.

Other key ingredients include Marine Collagen, L22®, Manuka Honey, Black Fern and Pohutukawa extract, which all work in synergy to achieve a dewy, supple and glowing complexion.

When asked what stood out about Syrene, MECCA Creative Director Marita Burke explained “our team fell in love with Syrene. First and foremost, they loved that they were supporting a home grown brand from New Zealand! And then of course, the product is beautiful. It’s packed with powerful ingredients, it’s light, it gently melts into the skin and the natural fragrance is very refreshing and uplifting. It was a super easy decision to launch at MECCA and we are looking forward to our partnership.”

Turning to Syrene’s sustainability journey, it wants to be part of the solution, not the problem. Syrene has started out by partnering with Ocean Waste Plastic™, which recycles plastics collected from oceans, beaches and rivers and turns it into Syrene’s aqua travel companion packaging. To date, this initiative has helped to remove 180,000 plastic bags from the sea.

Syrene founders Karen Yang and Jo Gilberd say “We’re constantly looking for other ways to be more sustainable, from searching and discovering quality sustainable, natural ingredients to implementing campaigns to encourage consumers to reuse our jars and bottles, they make beautiful vases and add a luxurious touch of aqua to your home!”

Syrene is available online at MECCA here.
