Australian tanning brand Bondi Sands has intrigued us with the release of its Pure range, which is made from 100 percent recyclable packaging and includes nourishing and natural ingredients. Read on for the details behind this new range and the brand’s sustainability journey and goals.
Bondi Sands is about sand, sea and sun and the lifestyle that comes with it, being inspired by Australia’s most well known beach. Its new Pure range, like all Bondi Sands products, is vegan, cruelty free and made in Australia.
The Pure range includes a bunch of skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid for hydration, vitamin C for radiance and vitamin E for repair, and importantly, is fragrance, dye and sulphate free. It’s also perfect for those with sensitive skin, being dermatologically tested.
Bondi Sands co-founder Blair James says sustainability is a key focus for the future of the brand including packaging, formulation, supply chain and operations.
“Bondi Sands Pure is our gold standard in sustainable self-tanning and paves the way for a new direction for the Bondi Sands brand and the evolution of packaging throughout our entire range”, says James.
“The packaging is ethically sourced and 100 percent recyclable to reduce the brand’s impact on the environment. In a first for the brand, the Pure Face Mist uses an innovative, zero metal spray head to ensure the packaging is 100 percent recyclable while still ensuring a controlled application.”
Self tanning isn’t about altering the way you look, but enhancing your natural glow. There are a variety of reasons why more and more New Zealanders are turning to self tanning products to boost their confidence, achieve a healthy glow and emphasise their curves, all without any skin damage from sun exposure.
With sustainability a key focus throughout the Bondi Sands supply chain, the company has hired a dedicated Packaging Resource whose sole responsibility is to evolve the packaging across the board. They will house all products in recycled plastics, remove un-recyclable materials completely, and offset manufacturing emissions where possible. James says the brand has pledged that all Bondi Sands packaging will be completely sustainable by 2025.
“All employees are aware of their responsibility to make a difference no matter how big or small, whether than means using a re-usable coffee cup or limiting their single-use plastics.”
With quality at the forefront of creating any Bondi Sands product, James says it has definitely been a challenge to source sustainable ingredients without compromising the product’s efficacy. The brand was able to solve this challenge by investing in and working alongside world-class packaging manufacturers.
“We always expect our products to perform at the standard our community have come to expect from Bondi Sands, so to be able to evolve and create the Pure range, consisting of high-quality products in 100 percent sustainable packaging, is a really proud moment for us.
“The zero metal foaming pumps, as found on our Pure Self Tan Foaming Water and Pure Self Tanning Face Mist, are the first of their kind in the self tanning industry, and can be easily recycled in a single step process, regardless of your local council’s regulations.”
As technology and innovation evolves, Bondi Sands hopes to see other brands follow suit in being more sustainable, whether that means recyclable products or simply educating their communities on the importance of taking sustainable steps in their personal lives.
“Major impact will only be possible if everyone makes an effort, whether that be a small business or multi-national. Consumers are also more educated than ever, so they will definitely be considering a brand’s sustainability when making a purchase moving forward.”
