Precinct Properties collaborates with Aotearoa based LGBTQI+ artist Shannon Novak for Pride 2022

NZX listed Precinct Properties, the country’s largest owner and developer of premium city centre real estate, has collaborated with renowned Aotearoa based activist and artist Shannon Novak for a unique art project during Pride 2022.

The multi-site art project, titled Bridge Between Worlds, showcases bright, bold interventions in public space, developed by Novak alongside takatāpui artist and activist Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho, and takatāpui artist and activist Hariata Herekore, with input from the local LGBTQI+ community.  The installations are designed to celebrate the LGBTQI+ community and positively connect different communities in Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond.

“Precinct is incredibly proud to have partnered with Shannon Novak to celebrate Pride month through his incredible art installation,” says Scott Pritchard, Precinct Properties CEO. “His artwork not only adds more life and colour to the retail and office spaces within Commercial Bay but also honours and celebrates the LGBTQI+ community.”

Bridge Between Worlds is made up of five key artworks spread over multiple sites managed by Precinct Properties within Commercial Bay; situated at the airbridge that connects the PwC Tower and Commercial Bay retail to the HSBC Tower, and the PwC Tower, HSBC Tower, Aon Centre and Jarden House lobbies.

Shannon Novak says, “It’s a privilege to partner with Precinct Properties to bring these artworks to life and use the power of art to acknowledge, celebrate, and support diversity and inclusion.

The works represent different takes on the original six-stripe rainbow flag and seek to help bridge the gap between BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) rainbow communities with non-BIPOC rainbow communities to create positive, meaningful, and sustained change.”

Beyond Bridge Between Worlds and Pride month activityPrecinct Properties has a number of ongoing initiatives designed to support the LGBTQI+ community.

The Bridge Between Worlds art installations are visible on the Lower Albert Street airbridge and within office lobbies of the office buildings within Commercial Bay.
