Spotlight has provided free sewing patterns for reusable masks, available for download here. The two different styles also include instructional videos.

And if you’re after ear-savers for added wearer comfort, you can check out a DIY project guide here.

CEO of Spotlight Quentin Gracanin said “Spotlight is committed to helping New Zealanders get through this pandemic with access to the materials and items needed to help protect ourselves, our loved ones and our community.

“If you’re a keen sewer, we encourage you to make masks for yourself and your family, and we’re asking our community to lend a helping hand via our Crafts for A Cause Facebook group.”

The online group is a space where like minded sewers from New Zealand and Australia can share tips and advice.

Although masks are not mandatory, wearing them is encouraged in Auckland, and on public transport across the rest of New Zealand. If you’re after a mask but don’t want to make one, check out our top picks from local designers here.
