Leftfield and Lazy Susan announce Auckland’s best BYO awards

Where do in-the-know Aucklanders go for fantastic food and to imbibe with their tribe by bringing their own bottle? That’s what Leftfield wines is looking to uncover with its inaugural ‘Best of BYO Awards’ in partnership with runaway food forum Lazy Susan.

With the hospitality industry hit hard in recent months, the awards are set to shine a light on the oft-overlooked spots that make nights memorable and offer overall X-factor – beyond the delicious dishes on their menus! One lucky establishment will be crowed the best and receive a $5,000 support package to be tailored to their business as needed.

From OG establishments to the new kids on the block, the Kiwi wine brand and foodie Facebook page are celebrating the epic eateries where taking along wine isn’t just fine, it’s encouraged.

Tāmaki Makaurau residents are being called upon to submit their suggestions by heading to the Lazy Susan group, with an expert panel of four whittling down the suggestions to a shortlist of 12.

The talented judging team includes some of the sharpest on the scene – Antony Suvalko (Lazy Susan co-founder, cookbook and travel guide author), Anna King Shahab (Lazy Susan co-founder, food and travel writer), Sammy Akuthota (restaurateur and self-confessed hedonistic lover of food and drink) and Sam Low (food and beverage creative and champion barista) – who will visit each site to score against considered criteria, before tallying their points alongside the public vote.

Following that, the overall winner will be given ultimate bragging rights as Auckland’s Best BYO and awarded a $5,000 small business grant to help with social media, SEO, photography or design. However they use it, the funds will be a welcome boost after the trials of 2021 to help get more patrons through the doors and keep the good times flowing.
