How to make wise decisions

Every choice we make has the chance to lift or deplete us. A choice is either in alignment with our authentic purpose, or will help us to understand what our purpose isn’t supposed to be.

Some of us are risk-takers and are continually making choices without thinking. Others hardly take risks and opt for an easy and secure life where they feel in control. There is no right or wrong with each if you are living with joy in your heart. But if you aren’t living with joy, you may need to create more change or stability in your life.

To action this, make decisions that align with the goals you set for yourself, and then continuously check in with each decision you make to ensure it aligns with your goals.

Once decisions are made from a grounded place of true knowing, everything flows with ease. Even small choices towards being more in alignment with how you want your life to be can make a huge difference whether it’s eating the right foods, spending time in nature, going to a gathering, or spending time alone.

Even when we choose to engage in bad behaviour, we have the choice again in the next moment we are aware, to make a decision to act with kindness and compassion. Guilt or regret over any decision is a waste of time, move on and own your choices. You and everyone else is only acting with what energy and understanding you have available to you at that moment.

There are many choices to any situation and giving yourself more time to be centred to have a broader perspective will provide you with the most harmonious outcome for all involved.

Challenge:

Here are some tips on how to get out of your head when making decisions.

SURRENDER

Surrendering is quite a hip ‘spiritual’ word at the moment isn’t it? It is a cool word because it means we can stop the battle within ourselves and have faith that what’s meant to be will be perfect for us.

Sometimes we have no idea which decision to make, and we need to offer it up to the universe to make it for us. I have done this many times when I have been in dire straits.

Lie on the ground, breath, surrender to your feelings. With any emotion that arises, feel where the energy is strong in your body.

Next, imagine dropping your back into the earth, notice where your body touches the ground, listen to as many sounds around you as possible.

Say “I have no idea what to do. Please show me the next step”.

Relax.

Trust that you will be shown the way. Maybe not straight away while lying down, but you will get a message the moment you stop thinking (whether that is when you wake up tomorrow).

WATCH FOR SIGNS

Be open for guidance shown to you in many ways, whether it’s a lyric where it feels like it jumps out of the radio and into your body; whether someone’s words make complete sense.

All these communications will be clues to the way to go, and they are there all around us when we are present. Don’t take them literally, but do listen and sit with a message to see if it has meaning for you.

ACT

Always act on intuition, not fear. To me, intuition is a yes or no feeling in my gut. It never fails me.

Fear, for me, is anxiety in the chest. That anxiety is me avoiding something that needs to be addressed before I make a decision.

Fear and intuition can often be mistaken, and it takes practice using your intuition. You’ll learn how to use your intuition by noticing when you go against it, versus when you go with it.

STOP ASKING

Stop asking for advice from others. Practice making decisions based on love for yourself first. Others may not accept this process, but that is ok.

REFLECT

Watch your vibe when you make a big decision. If fear is consuming you, work on your energy to become grounded. Surrender the emotion and let it flow through. Then, make the decision.

Journal times when in your life, you made significant decisions which resulted in beautiful outcomes. Notice which energetic state you were in when you made that decision.
