In times like these when eco-friendly cleaners have been cleared from the supermarket shelves, here’s a recipe to make your own at home. For this recipe, the ethanol alcohol (derived from corn and sugar, and naturally occuring in the alcohol fermentation process), and the tea tree oil work as the antibacterial agents.

INGREDIENTS

  • Spray bottle
  • 100 proof alcohol such as vodka or ethanol (naturally occurring alcohol)
  • 15 drops of tea tree essential oil (100% natural)
  • 5-10 drops of orange essential oil (100% natural)
  • Funnel (if you have one)

METHOD

Step 1

Pour the alcohol in the spray bottle almost to the top. Using a funnel will help ensure there is no spillage.

Step 2

Add the drops of essential oil. Do make sure these are 100% natural oils; there are risks involved with using synthetic ones which aren’t antibacterial.

Step 3

Place the lid on the bottle and give it a good mix. Your DIY natural antibacterial spray is ready to go!

Remember to give it a shake each time before you use it to recombine the ingredients.

Happy cleaning!
