In the latest issue of Good I featured a pair of open-back armchairs I’d bought off Trade Me. I was pleasantly surprised when a trip to the V&A Museum in London revealed an almost identical set! The chairs were designed by G. A. Jenkins for The Packet Furniture Co., Great Yarmouth, in the late 1940s. He’s not as well-known as his architect co-designer Eric Lyons, but today the work of both is seen as revolutionary.

The chairs come from the Tecta Plywood furniture range, which emerged as a solution to post-war production costs. The Tecta Plywood allowed freedom of form for the designers while working within the necessary low-cost manufacture process.

Collectables can constantly surprise and it’s been really fun this issue discovering all the stories behind our favourite collectables.
