Ruapehu Alpine Lifts lifts snow experience with it’s top Qualmark rating

Words Carolyn Enting

Strapping your boots onto your snowboard or skis for a day on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu just got sweeter thanks to Ruapehu Alpine Lifts just being awarded the top Qualmark rating.

The Qualmark Gold accreditation positions Ruapehu Alpine Lifts amongst the most sustainable tourism businesses in New Zealand.

The announcement comes during a week of primo skiing conditions on the mountain, and Ruapehu Alpine Lift’s next goal is to achieve the Qualmark ‘100% Pure Experience’ once Qualmark has finalised the required criteria.

Tourism New Zealand (which uses the 100% Pure slogan) took over Qualmark late last year and is aiming to secure a long term sustainable position for the New Zealand Tourism Industry by protecting what makes New Zealand unique and desirable.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts CEO Ross Copeland says it was RAL’s first assessment and they’re very proud to achieve Qualmark Gold accreditation.

The rating coincides with significant investment into new facilities on the mountain including new snow making machines, and a transformation of Happy Valley with three new carpet lifts and elevators. The opening of a new quad chairlift at Whakapapa is also planned.
