Try these delicious smoothie recipes – great to try year-round if you keep frozen fruit and spinach on hand in the freezer.
Pina Colada Green Smoothie
Serves 2
500ml unsweetened coconut water (or 500ml water with 2 teaspoons desiccated coconut)
1 cup of freshly cut pineapple pieces (or tinned in natural juice)
1 orange
½ frozen banana – see note below
at least one cup full of chopped spinach leaves
Place the liquid into the blender and then add all the fruit
and vegetables.
Blend on high until it has reached a smooth consistency. Serve immediately.
Tip: If you are not doing it already, always having frozen bananas in your freezer is a great new habit. Then the bananas start to get a bit too ripe in your fruit bowl, simply peel them, break them into bits and place them in a designated container in your freezer. They are great for smoothies, banana whip, baking and much more … using a frozen banana in this smoothie provides a nice, cold, refreshing and nourishing drink.

Berry Nice Banana Smoothie
Serves 2 // GF OF
1 banana (fresh or frozen)
½ cup mixed berries (frozen or fresh)
2 cups quality milk alternative (soy, almond, oat)
1-2 tablespoons raw almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or flaxseed (linseed)
1 teaspoon desiccated coconut (optional)
Place all ingredients into your blender and mix until smooth. Drink immediately, or the smoothie can be stored in the fridge and drunk later that day.
NB: To make this a true breakfast smoothie, add a generous handful of oats.
Note: If you don’t have a fresh banana in your fruit bowl, you can reach for the frozen ones in your freezer! This tastes just as great and is so creamy, but be warned, it makes a very ice-cold blend, so beware of the brain freeze!
Tip: If you would like to power this smoothie with even more of a protein hit, add ¼ or ½ a block of tofu. And finally, to make it super creamy, add ¼ to ½ an avocado.
