Clothes are not for warmth, modesty or necessity

They are there to tell the story of you—who you are, what you do, how you feel about yourself, how you feel about the world.

Be true to yourself

Having said that, being true to yourself might not be a good ploy if you are boring—in that case it’s okay to deceive. There’s a great Zen saying: act as if and you will become.

The biggest lie in the world is ‘black makes you look thinner’

Fat people in black just look dowdy and surprisingly like fat people in black. Fat people in colour look fabulous and happy and sexy.

Just because it’s fashionable, doesn’t mean it’s okay for you

I find it a much better idea to buy a few good-quality, well-cut clothes, than to buy lots of cheap ones. Good clothes are actually not more expensive because they last much longer, fit you better, don’t go out of fashion as quickly and are kinder to the environment.

Find out what suits you. Look at your body mercilessly

Colour is never a mistake, be bold, take risks, show a bit of bosom, stand up straight. Remember, the most beautiful and fashionable thing you can wear is a smile.
