Woollen socks are more than just warm and comfortable – they’re durable, bacteria-resistant and promote foot health. But for those facing homelessness, good socks are a luxury, and rarely donated to charity.
Many businesses and individuals participate in Socktober, encouraging others to donate socks or participate in ‘buy one, give one’ schemes, helping provide this essential clothing item to vulnerable communities.
This October, homegrown sock company, Norsewear, is helping to change that. Through their Socktober campaign, Norsewear is running a buy one, donate one scheme. For every pair of socks purchased from the Norsewear website between 1-31 October, the company will donate a pair of merino socks to Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai.

“Many don’t realise that socks are one of the least-donated items, yet they’re critical for foot health, especially for those experiencing homelessness,” says Norsewear owner, Tim Deane. “Wet or worn-out socks can lead to severe foot problems, and that’s where we can make a difference.”
Crafted in Hawke’s Bay, Norsewear socks are made from high-quality merino wool, known for their durability. Some customers even claim their socks have lasted decades!
With World Homeless Day on 10 October, Tim hopes Norsewear’s loyal community will support the campaign and help provide warm socks to those in need.
