Tūrama Festival 2020

From 1 – 4 October 2020, New Zealand’s top creatives will transform Albert Park into a playground for the curious. From huge interactive artworks, stunning performance artists, a lineup of homegrown music talent, sensory cocktails and an array of tasty kai, there will be something for everyone.

Tūrama means to give light to, or to illuminate in te reo Māori, and through reflection, sound, lighting, weight and kinetic energy, a wide array of artworks will be on display. Jarrod Barrow will present oversized natural formations that will pair the natural world and a vibrant urban environment. Catherine Ellis and Alex Guthrie will set free a gentle creature that was once a taonga to Aotearoa. Ben Lawrence and Malcolm Dunn will shoot beams of light, and Anna Korver’s stairs will lead the eye up into the sky. Albert Park’s iconic history will be paid homage to through Christian Nicolson’s visualisation of past musicians that once played in this city centre oasis. Through the movement of shadows, sculpture artist Rebecca Rose will balance the promise of a new day with the gratitude for a day completed.

Enter via the main entrance on Princes Street and you’ll find a lineup of homegrown music talent, tasty kai from a curated list of nutritious and culturally diverse food vendors, the main bar and the arts trail ticket office. Tickets to the arts trail are $8 in advance or $10 on the door. Under 16s can explore for free! Drinks from the main bar may be taken on the arts trail. We recommend allowing at least two hours to explore all the artworks.

It is of great importance to that everyone is able to explore Tūrama with as much ease as possible. There will be free-of-charge tours for those who have hearing difficulties or
are visually impaired on Thursday 1st October at 3pm. To sign up, please email [email protected] or call 027 649 2940.
