Spruce up your furniture post-lockdown

We hear from Sebastian Nash, King Living Textile Development Manager, about sprucing up our furniture post-lockdown.

What’s your number one piece of advice for people who have spent a lot of time on their sofas during lockdown?

Your first port of call should be to give the furniture a vacuum using the furniture setting. This should get rid of any excess and from there you can tell if it might need a deeper clean. If the fabric is visibly soiled you should call out a professional furniture cleaner to get the job done with no risk to your furniture. If you have a leather sofa give it a dust first and then clean with a mild leather soap followed with a leather conditioner to polish it off.

Is there a best way to clean sofas depending on fabric?

It’s always best to follow the advice given on the care label. If you have an investment piece, like any of our King Living items which come with a 25+ year warranty, then we always recommend a professional clean to protect your investment.

Is it best to purchase furniture with removable covers? What are the benefits?

Removable covers are always a great option with many benefits as you can refresh and change your cover at any time. This could be for a refresh when it’s looking a little tired, or even if you just feel like a change of decor you can swap it for a new colour or fabric. King Living offers removable covers on a number of different sofas to ensure that you can keep your piece for years to come and change it with the trends and seasons.

Is it possible to wear down the fabric from sitting on it too much?

It does depend on the type of fabric as all fabric has different grades from Light Domestic to Heavy Commercial – the more use the piece will receive, the higher grade we recommend. For a sofa or living room chair, King Living recommends a higher grade, than say, an occasional chair or decorative piece.

What is the best way to prevent stains and further damage to keep their pieces in good shape for the future?

Along with regular cleaning to ensure no stains take a long term hold, King Living also offers King Guard + on our fabrics which we highly recommend. This product helps prevent stains and is also anti-microbial which will help keep your furniture fresh, safe and clean. It is coated on your piece of furniture before it gets delivered to your house to ensure that the fabric stands the test of time.
