Local Goodness Smoothie

Photography Aimee Magne

Make your morning smoothie using top-quality Kiwi Kai from local producers.

One positive spinoff of living in a world where Covid is in existence is that it has reminded us to shop local and support Kiwi products whenever we can.

But they’ve got to be really delicious too.

This recipe includes some amazing Kiwi products worth raving about.

I’ve discovered a supplier that delivers avocados straight to your door (Waitaha Avocados).

Master picker Gary lovingly cradles them into a courier box.

By the way, avocados are full of good fats that are helpful for gorgeous, glowing skin – hence the name of this juice.

Another NZ grown product I’m loving is Tahi spirulina.

The sustainable food is the darkest spirulina powder I’ve used and tastes so earthy and yum.

It brings this green juice, and you, to life (aka a great whole food pick-me-up).

Green Glow Juice

Ingredients

  • Handful of sliverbeet
  • 1 orange (the Burnside Trust in Gisborne grows the sweetest oranges!)
  • ¼ avocado (I use Waitaha Avocados, which are Katikati-based)
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 tsp honey (I used 1839 Mānuka Honey from Tauranga)
  • 1 tsp green spirulina (Tahi spirulina makes it so dark green)
  • 1 banana, peeled

Place all the ingredients in a blender (I use a high-quality Vitamix blender), blend until smooth and then pour it into a glass or bottle to take on the go!
