Keep gardening tools handy and avoid losing your hand trowels and twine with your own gardening caddy. You can create one easily using a few upcycled tins, painted in your favourite Resene colour. For the best result, combine a mix of tin sizes.
You need
8-10 clean empty tins
Can opener
Wood, approximately 35cm x 12cm in size and around 3cm thick
Drill and medium drill bit
Square screwdriver and screws
Handle with screws
Resene paint in a colour of your choice
Paint brush
Method
Step 1: Run the can opener around the top of each tin to make sure all edges are smooth.
Step 2: Drill a small hole in each can, 1-2 cm below the top of the rim.
Step 3: Use screws to attach the cans to the sides, and each end, of the wood. Using a square screwdriver and screws means you don’t need to pre-drill the wood.
Step 4: Paint all surfaces. Begin with Resene Galvo One as a primer to help your paint finish last longer. For the topcoats I used the hard-wearing Resene Enamacryl in the lovely smoky shade of Blue Bayoux. Or, for a range of colours you could use Resene testpots.
Step 5: Allow paint to dry before attaching a handle to the top edge of the wood. I used a light but sturdy old cabinet handle.
