Empowering youth to follow their dreams

Young people who are taking part in the Enterprise programme, facilitated by The Prince’s Trust New Zealand, met with Prince Charles on Wednesday 20 November, to discuss their business plans, hopes and ideas for the future.

The Enterprise programme helps young New Zealanders gain practical and technical skills, develop confidence and aspirations that will not only help them with a transition into employment but will also create ways to succeed in the future.

At the beginning of each course, they receive intensive training to test the viability of their ideas, gain new technical skills, business literacy as well as learn about marketing and product development. After clarifying business plans, they are  matched with a mentor who will offer “support and advice for up two years to grow their company.”

The programme itself is facilitated by The Prince’s Trust New Zealand and QRC Tai Tokreau Resort College in Pahia. The Trust was established last year with an idea to support young spirits on their journey to adulthood, by strengthening entrepreneurial skills for opening their own businesses, here in Aotearoa. It is also connected to the charity in the UK that was founded in early 70s by Prince Charles and has helped thousands of young people with their life and work opportunities.

With this week’s visit of Prince Charles to New Zealand, the young people who are participating in the programme had the opportunity to meet His Royal Highness to talk about their business plans and challenges. The Prince is also interested to see how his views are aligned with the views of the young entrepreneurs, regarding the protection of environment, sustainability, tourism and people’s wellbeing.
